London/New York – In response to today’s announcement that the UK will look to reform data privacy laws, BritishAmerican Business Executive Director, London, and Director of Policy and Trade Emanuel Adam said:
“We welcome the ambition of the UK government to set out a modern and forward-thinking approach to data, a cornerstone of modern, innovative societies and businesses. We are also encouraged and supportive of the UK choosing the U.S. as one of the countries it is looking to form a special data adequacy partnership with. Reducing barriers to trade and growth is key to ensuring the UK remains a leading place to do business.
“It will be a challenge and an opportunity for the UK to craft new solutions that reflect this ambition in future and existing arrangements, such as the EU-UK data adequacy agreement, or the ongoing EU-U.S. and U.S.-UK post-privacy shield discussions. We, therefore, look forward to working closely with the UK government as it develops these new initiatives so that we can fully take advantage of data as a driver for growth.”
