The Good Business Forum

Profit with purpose, Environmental & Social Governance (ESG), Social Value, CSR. From climate change to attracting and retaining a new more socially minded generation of employees – recent events have brought exploring and articulating businesses’ wider role in society up many board and exec agendas.

This quarterly forum for GBCC members explores how businesses are tackling this subject and why: the tangible business benefits to doing so. Each event sees a panel of; a business case study, a professional advisor and a representative from the public or third sector sharing their insights and perspectives before a series of roundtable discussions.

SPEAKERS

Professor Ian Thomson, Professor of Accounting and Sustainability at the University of Birmingham Business School and

Director of the Lloyds Banking Centre for Responsible Business

Ian Thomson is Professor of Accounting and Sustainability at the University of Birmingham Business School, convenor of the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research, and Director of the Lloyds Banking Group Centre for Responsible Business. Ian has worked in the field of responsibility, accountability and sustainability for 30 years and is a seasoned commentator on these topics.

Ian’s research and commentary includes studies on the implementation of cleaner technology, effective stakeholder engagement, sustainable development indicators, government policymaking, climate change, use of accounting by activists, human rights, international development programmes and football clubs. His current projects include carbon accountability, operationalising the UN Sustainable Development Goals for business and how the responsibility of businesses is measured.

Helen Miles, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Birmingham Women’s & Children’s Hospital Charity ­– Helen will be providing a case study of how the charity work with employers on creating positive social impact

Kelly Collumb – Wellbeing, Diversity & Inclusion Manager, Gymshark – Kelly will be sharing a case study of Gymshark’s approach to social value and community engagement
